Otavio Junior Santos de Paula was born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais and has been an MC, composer and poet since 1998. He started his artistic activities promoting debates and talks in his community about human rights issues, which brought him into contact with local hip hop culture. Partnering with local youth and cultural producers, he formed Grupo de Rap Liricaos, which emphasized the importance of conscious lyrics in addition to rhythm and flow.

As a young black man with a disability, he is constantly confronted with the same issues of prejudice, racism and stereotypes. Drawing on his street smarts as well as his social work, he focuses on discussing the similarities and differences of people and adding his own unique perspective to the mix.

His first solo CD, “Cosmopolitas Vol. 1,” was released in 2011 and he has since performed at important cultural events such as O Projeto Literatura Suburbana, Festival Reviva Rap as well as special appearances with local alternative and MPB bands.

Hip hop being the root element, he brings many different musical elements to the hip hop back bone of his music. From classical music to roots samba to rhythmic experimentation, the results are intense, sensitive and involving. His track “Maracatu Dirty,” featured on Kafundó Vol. 3, is a seamless blend of samba, maracatu, hip hop and dub guaranteed to rock any dance floor.
